# Veg Chowmein Recipe

## About

It is a popular Indian street food recipe prepared with medium-sized noodles, thinly sliced vegetables, Asian sauces, and Indian spices. In short, **Veg Chowmein** or **Vegetable Chowmein** is a fusion of Indian and Asian cuisine recipes to match the local or native Indian taste buds. It is typically served as an appetizer, or starter but can also be served as a main course. Typically it goes best with Manchurian sauce or with any types of Asian soups and sauces.

There are many different types of Chowmein recipes across India and the variations mainly depend upon the hero ingredient added to it. The most common is **Veg Chowmein**, which is loaded with all types of vegetables. However, adding different types of meat to it, makes it a more balanced and complete meal. Even the meat variant can take any type of vegetable in it. But it should not overpower the noodles and should be added in moderation.

## Ingredients

### For boiling noodles:

* water
* 1 tbsp salt
* 2 pack hakka noodles
* 2 tsp oil

### For chowmein:

* 2 tbsp oil
* 2 chilli *(finely chopped)*
* 1 inch ginger *(chopped)*
* 5 cloves garlic *(chopped)*
* 1 onion *(sliced)*
* 2 tbsp spring onion *(chopped)*
* 1 carrot *(chopped)*
* 1 cup cabbage *(chopped)*
* ½ capsicum *(chopped)*
* ½ tsp salt
* ½ tsp pepper powder
* 2 tbsp tomato sauce
* 1 tbsp chilli sauce
* 2 tsp soy sauce
* 1 tbsp vinegar

## Instructions

1. Firstly, in a large vessel get the water to a boil.
2. Add 1 tbsp salt and 2 pack hakka noodles.
3. Stir and boil for 3 minutes or until the noodles are cooked al dente.
4. Drain off the noodles and make sure the noodles are not overcooked.
5. Rinse in cold water to stop from overcooking.
6. Transfer the noodles to a large plate and coat them with 2 tsp oil to prevent them from sticking to each other. Keep aside.
7. In a large wok, heat 2 tbsp oil. Add 2 chilli, 1 inch ginger and 5 cloves garlic. Stir fry on high flame.
8. Add 1 onion, 2 tbsp spring onion and stir fry on high flame.
9. Further add 1 carrot, 1 cup cabbage and ½ capsicum.
10. Stir fry on high flame till the vegetables turn crunchy.
11. Add boiled noodles, ½ tsp salt and ½ tsp pepper powder.
12. Also add 2 tbsp tomato sauce, 1 tbsp chilli sauce, 2 tsp soy sauce and 1 tbsp vinegar.
13. Toss gently coating all the noodles with sauce.
14. Further add 2 tbsp spring onion and stir fry making sure everything is well combined.
15. Finally, enjoy Veg Chowmein Noodles with tomato sauce.

    Drain off the noodles and make sure the noodles are not overcooked. Rinse in cold water to stop from overcooking.
