OpenCookbook is a non-commercial, open-source reading copy of recipes published by Hebbar’s Kitchen, reorganised so they can be browsed and cooked from.

Purpose

This site exists because the recipes are excellent and the reading experience around them is not. Every page here is the same recipe, laid out so you can get from “what should I cook” to a list of ingredients without fighting the page. It is a personal project, published so others can use it too. It is not a business, it carries no advertising, and nothing on it is for sale.

Ownership

Every recipe, photograph, and word of instruction on this site is the work of Hebbar’s Kitchen and remains their property. Not ours. We claim no ownership, no authorship, no affiliation, and no rights of any kind over this material. Hebbar’s Kitchen built this body of work over a decade, tested it, photographed it, and gave it away for free. We hold that in high regard, and this archive is meant as an acknowledgement of it rather than a substitute. Every page links back to the original post, and the step photographs on every page are served directly from their site. If you cook from this site, the credit is theirs.

What this site does not do

  • No monetisation. No advertising, no affiliate links, no sponsorship, no paywall, no donations, no tracking or analytics sold to anyone.
  • No claim of originality. Nothing here is presented as our own writing.
  • No paywall circumvention. Everything reproduced here was already public on the open web.
  • No substitution. The original site remains the canonical source, with comments, ratings, and recipes newer than this archive.

Open source

The code that builds this site is open source. It is a data pipeline, not a content library: it reads the publicly available site, extracts the recipe, and renders it as pages. Anyone can read it, audit what it does, or run it.

If you are from Hebbar’s Kitchen: this was built out of genuine appreciation and is offered in that spirit. We would rather have your blessing than your silence, and we would far rather have a conversation than a complaint.
