It is basically a refreshing beverage drink recipe prepared with poppy seeds, milk, sabja seeds, sugar, fennel seeds, and a choice of dry fruits. Khus Khus Sharbat Recipe is one such creamy and rich traditional drink served for any occasion and season. The main purpose of serving this drink is to quench the thirst, but the health benefits and energy-boosting properties are also to be considered. There are many different ways to prepare the sharbat or drink recipe from poppy seeds. But the most common way is to ground the poppy seeds and mix them with chilled milk and fennel seeds for the best result. The popular variations include preparing the concentrated syrup and mixing it with sugar water. However, it may not be suitable for everyone, especially with sugar-related health problems.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp khus khus / poppy seeds
  • 2 tbsp cashew
  • 2 tbsp almonds
  • 1 tsp saunf / fennel
  • 2 pods cardamom
  • 2 tbsp custard powder
  • 1 litre milk
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ tsp green food colour
  • 2 tbsp sabja

Instructions

  1. firstly, in a small bowl take 2 tbsp khus khus, 2 tbsp cashew, 2 tbsp almonds, 1 tsp saunf and 2 pods cardamom.
  2. soak in water for 30 minutes or until the skin of the almonds separates.
  3. peel the skin of the almonds and transfer them to the mixer jar.
  4. add 2 tbsp custard powder and grind to smooth paste. keep aside.
  5. in a large pan heat 1 litre milk.
  6. once the milk warms up, add prepared khus paste and mix well.
  7. continue to cook on low flame until the milk thickens and turns glossy.
  8. also, add ¼ cup sugar and ¼ tsp green food colour.
  9. mix well making sure everything is well combined.
  10. transfer to a large bowl and chill for 2 hours.
  11. also add 2 tbsp sabja and mix well.
  12. finally, enjoy Khus Sharbat Recipe topped with ice and nuts.
