It is a popular and flavored chutney recipe prepared with basic ingredients like red chilies and garlic pods for that extra zing and flavor for any street-style chaat recipe. In other words, Red Garlic Chutney is a one-stop magic seasoning chutney that can be topped on any dish or chaat to make it super special. The flavored chaat recipes are made with many different chutney and curries and each has its taste and role. However, one of the significant ingredients is garlic chutney which not only adds taste and flavour but also a vibrant colour to any chaat recipe. There are many different ways to this simple Red Garlic Chutney Recipe, but the most common way is to make it with red chilies and fresh young garlic. The red chilies are soaked and ground with garlic with additional herbs and spices. Optionally, the ground paste can be fried with oil to increase the longevity of the chutney but not required. Also, the same chutney can be extended with ginger and garlic combinations too. This is typically a purposed-based chutney and cannot be used for all the chaat recipes. Further, the other most common is to add different types of herbs with garlic and red chilies. The idea is to combine red and green chutney.Ingredients
- 20 dried red chilli
- hot water (for soaking)
- ½ cup garlic
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 2 tsp sugar
- ¾ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
- Firstly, deseed the 20 dried red chilli and transfer to the bowl.
- Soak in hot water for 30 minutes.
- Transfer the soaked red chilli into the mixer jar.
- add ½ cup garlic, 1 tsp cumin powder, 2 tsp sugar, ¾ tsp salt and 2 tbsp lemon juice.
- Grind to smooth paste.
- Finally, Red Garlic Chutney for chaat is ready and can be used to make chaats.
Step-by-step

Firstly, deseed the 20 dried red chilli and transfer to the bowl.

Soak in hot water for 30 minutes.

Transfer the soaked red chilli into the mixer jar.

Notes
- Firstly, make sure to deseed the red chilli, else the chutney will be very spicy.
- If you are looking to skip the soaking part of red chilli, then you can add 2 tbsp of red chilli powder while grinding.
- Additionally, you can adjust the consistency of the chutney by adding water as required.
- Finally, Red Garlic Chutney Recipe can be stored for 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
