Spring Onion Tambli Recipe

Ingredients

for tambli

  • 2 stalks spring onion
  • 3 tbsp coconut
  • 1 cup curd
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1-2 green chillies (depending upon the spice level)
  • 1 tsp ghee

for seasoning

  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 red chilli
  • 3-4 curry leaves
  • pinch of hing

Instructions

  1. clean the spring onions and chop them finely.
  2. take a tsp of ghee in a frying pan. to that add cumin seeds, green chilli and spring onion.
  3. fry on a medium flame till spring onions shrink in size.
  4. allow spring onions to cool completely.
  5. in a blender, take the fried spring onion mixture with coconut.
  6. add warm water and grind them to a fine paste.
  7. now transfer this to a bowl. add curd or buttermilk and mix it well. add water to adjust the tambli consistency.
  8. add salt to taste and mix well.
  9. now in a seasoning pan heat ghee, add mustard, jeera, red chilli, curry leaves and hing.tadka
  10. when the mustard seeds splutter add it to tambuli.
  11. serve it along with hot steamed rice.

Notes

  • use fresh curd to enjoy the real taste of tambli.
  • tambuli taste great when consumed fresh with rice.
  • tempering is compulsory. else the tambli will taste bland.
