It is a traditional and classical Indian fudge recipe made with simple ingredients like full cream milk and sugar. Mawa Barfi or Khoya barfi is a popular Indian fudge sweet that is mainly served in Halwai or bakery shops. Typically the assumption is that these milk sweets are difficult to prepare at home. - 2 litre milk
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tsp ghee
- ½ tsp cardamom powder
Instructions
- Firstly, in large kadai add some water before adding 2 litre milk.
- Stir and get the milk to a boil.
- Now add 2 tsp lemon juice and continue to boil stirring uniforly.
- You can see, the milk starts to get grainy texture.
- Continue to boil till the milk reduces.
- Add in ½ cup sugar in batches to prevent sugar from turning mixture watery.
- Keep boiling and adding sugar in batches.
- Continue to boil, till the milk thickens and turns creamy consistency.
- Now add 1 tsp ghee and continue to cook till the mixture starts to separate the pan.
- Add in ½ tsp cardamom powder, 1 tsp ghee and give a good mix.
- Transfer to a tray lined with baking paper.
- Cover and rest for 30 minutes, to set completely.
- Finally, cut into desired pieces and enjoy Mawa Burfi.

Notes
- Firstly, make sure to stir and boil the milk to prevent it from burning.
- Do not add too much of lemon, as the milk will turn into paneer then. We just need a grainy texture.
- Also, adjust the amount of sugar to your preferences.
- Finally, Mawa Burfi Recipe tastes great when flavored with cardamom powder and ghee.
